Our Mission
The Mound Mapping Academy is a training program for adults who want to develop the skills needed to document Indian mound and petroform monuments. The academy’s long-term objective is to develop functional teams capable of:
- accurately mapping sites,
- conducting records searches and interviews,
- developing accurate reports,
- obtaining site recognition for historic preservation,
- identifying previously unrecorded sites, and
- documenting damage to existing sites.
The first step in the process is learning the basic skills to understand and create maps of earthworks. The course has these main components: Classroom lectures, hands-on activities, field trips, and homework.
